With plaque installation completed, it is time to reveal the second element that the Mahayana Temple Retreat has been preparing for our new self-guided tour. We’re creating a brochure with a map and photos to help guide visitors around the temple grounds. We hope that this new map will support the plaques to result in a more cohesive experience for the self-guided tour. As an additional benefit, the brochure can function as a beautiful souvenir.
This map has been skillfully crafted by designer Zachary Wellstood, who also designed the plaques and edited the audio recordings. Various features of the map are inspired by the plaque design. For instance, the English map fonts match those on the plaque, while the border and the embellishments on the map are influenced by the hui pattern of the plaque borders. We are immensely grateful for Zachary’s continued work on this project and specifically his design insights, as this would not be possible without him.
Soon, guests will be able to find these map brochures at the kiosk located between the Ksitigarbha Hall and the 18 arhat statues. Currently this kiosk is home to a graphic displaying the bodies of water on the temple grounds. While the existing graphic depicts the natural scenery of the retreat, the new setup will provide helpful navigational information. We hope to have the new map installed by the end of January 2026.
As we continue our temple reconstruction efforts, we are looking forward to making updates to our navigational materials. Our next endeavor in providing a well-rounded guest experience is to install a large-scale topographic map that will grow and change with the reconstruction.
In the meantime, you may subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of our main blog page to be notified of blog updates and other temple news. If you would like to support the reconstruction efforts described in our posts, we invite you to make a contribution via our PayPal or Venmo accounts. Thank you for reading, and blessings to all.
